On May 31st Robert Wilson’s version of the romantic opera “Der Freischütz” by Carl Maria von Weber premièred at Festspielhaus in Baden-Baden. Famous for their flower based designs, Amsterdam based Viktor & Rolf became the obvious choice for the costume design. It was not an easy task for even them however they managed to complete it with the use of over one million Swarovski crystals. This video documents how Robert Wilson’s vision combined with the talent of designers Viktor & Rolf came together to make the costumes for the show. Needless to say all the costumes looked stunning. As far as I’m concerned the crystals were just the icing on the cake. The cake itself was made up of many layers of beautiful ingredients, speaking non metaphorically I’m trying to say the costume designs by Viktor and Rolf were simply mind blowing. All of the costumes were magnificent and very grand just like what you’d expect from an Opera production from one of the worlds greatest stage directors.
